It seems as if today, 1 in 4 children are diagnosed with ADHD.
Do not be fearful of the term. It can only be a setback and prevent the gathering of accurate information. If you or a teacher suspects there may be an attention/focus issue, ask the following questions:
1) Have there been recent changes that could cause your child to be distracted and unfocused.
2) Is the learning environment structured at home and at school?
3) Has your child had a vision and hearing screening?
4) Is the lack of focus causing impairment in learning or routine activities?
If the answer is yes to most, then consider an Educational Evaluation. It will give you a base line as to where your child is and how they learn. Then you can decide what modifications can be made in their learning plan. The earlier this is done, the better the prognosis.
